Introducing Tahiana

Faratahiana Randrianarisaona, better known by her artist name Tahiana, was born in Antananarivo, Befelatanana, into a 100% Malagasy family. At a very young age, she left Madagascar to follow her diplomatic parents to East Africa, notably Kenya and Tanzania.

Brought up in a multicultural environment, Tahiana has always sought to strike a balance between her Malagasy roots and the identity shaped by her experiences abroad. Fluent in both Malagasy and Swahili, she has integrated both languages into her music.

A life of travel and experiences

Having traveled to over 30 countries and lived in five, Tahiana continues to maintain a strong link with Madagascar. Although she has spent most of her life abroad, Tahiana returns regularly to her homeland, driven by a deep attachment to her Malagasy roots.

It was in Tanzania, however, that she found her true “cocoon”. When she moved to Dar es Salaam, she felt a deep sense of coming home. This return to Tanzania marked the beginning of her new adventure. Having always had a passion for art and creation, she quickly returned to her first love: sewing and design.

From sewing to fine arts

Tahiana started out as a dressmaker, taking part in competitions to create original garments. Driven by her desire to perfect her art, she joined the fine arts school in the south of France, where she specialized in black and white photography. Her artistic curiosity later led her to explore other forms of expression, notably singing, which gave rise to her stage name “Tahiana”.

After her musical career, Tahiana turned to a new creative adventure: designing jewelry and accessories. This led to the creation of her own brand, Tahiana Uumbaji.

A fusion of Maasai and Malagasy cultures

The idea behind Tahiana Uumbaji is to combine the techniques and traditions of Tanzania’s Maasai with those of her Madagascan heritage. To master the art of the Maasai, Tahiana spent days and nights with the Mama Maasai, learning their ancestral techniques and sharing their daily lives.

This fusion of two distant but complementary cultures has given rise to unique creations that honor the traditions of both peoples. Each piece of jewelry and accessory is carefully designed to reflect this balance between modernity and traditional craftsmanship.

Tahiana Uumbaji
An emotional brand

Founded in 2024, Tahiana Uumbaji celebrates the richness of cultural diversity through handcrafted creations imbued with history and emotion. Each piece tells a unique story, woven from materials, techniques, and influences inspired by Maasai and Malagasy traditions.

The brand name symbolizes this profound connection between craftsmanship and cultural identity, where each creation becomes a unique expression of memory, heritage, and meaning.

Imbued with these two cultures, Tahiana designs jewelry and accessories distinguished by their authenticity, artistry, and timeless beauty. Produced in limited quantities, some pieces are crafted as true works of art, making each creation all the more rare and precious.

Through Tahiana Uumbaji, the ambition is to spread the art of cultural fusion beyond borders, offering unique creations designed for those who appreciate authenticity, art, and heritage.

All of the brand’s creations are dedicated to its parents, without whom this adventure would never have seen the light of day.
